Atiak Sugar Factory under Horyal Investments Holding Company Ltd

Government took a decision to purchase Equity  through UDC in Horyal Investments Holding Company Limited (HIHC) as a measure of providing financing to complete the Sugar Factory Project. —HIHC is  in advanced stages of establishing a Sugar Processing plant with the  an initial capacity of 1,650 TCD (Tonnes crushed per Day), expandable to 5,000TCD after five years

—The plant is being set up in Gem Village, Pachilo parish, Atiak District in Northern Uganda and it is expected to start commercial operations in May 2019

Above the Hon. Amelia Kyambadde, Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives on a guided tour  of the factory construction site.  The Minister is accompanied by Hon Members of Parliament  from the region, Board and  Management of UDC and the Investment promoter , Ms Amina Hersi Moghe.

On completion, the investment will:

i)    The plant is expected to create employment for  at least 3500 workers directly and 15,000 indirectly on the out-grower farms,  involve 8,000 households , utilize 28,500 acres  of land, involve  two Cooperative  Societies and produce 6MW of electricity.

ii)    Infrastructure development and improved social amenities, emerging cottage industries and businesses, provide ready income to the cooperative society of over 4700 members, of whom 80% are women who are heads of families.

iii)  The project will be among the few industrial interventions in the region by Government in regional distribution of resources (industries).
