Tea Processing Factories in Kisoro and Kabale

Tea has been highlighted as one of the strategic products for export promotion under national Export Development Strategy. As such, Government through UDC is undertaking several investments in setting up tea processing factories in partnership with the private sector.  In Kabale and Kisoro, UDC partnered with Kigezi Highland tea Ltd to set up two factories each with a processing capacity of 450kg/hr.  The factories which have just began operations will produce a combined total of 2,400 tons of ready tea per annum, earning the country an additional US$ 4.8 million worth of exports annually, creating a 1,800 jobs and working with about 1,560 tea out-growers at full operational capacity.  The Kabale factory alone has already injected Ushs638,726,828 into the community through purchase of green leaf, firewood and labour since April 15 2018  up to 31 July 2018 when the trial runs started, and earned USD 93,000 in exports.
